Annie Rupani is 21 years old from Sugar Land, Texas representing Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. She was crowned Miss Pakistan World 2010 on August 20, 2010 in Toronto, Canada. She is currently studying Religion and Anthropology at Boston University.
She has also studied abroad in London during the fall semester of 2008 and was able to travel to several countries in Western Europe which triggered her fascination for other cultures. She has also been to the Northern Mountainous region of Pakistan through the Rupani Foundation to help in a women’s development initiative of Gem Cutting and Polishing Training Centers.
Annie’s interests include laughing, traveling, and cooking, and the outdoors. She is passionate about the issues that currently affect Pakistan and she hopes that during her year as Miss Pakistan World, she is able to create a lighter image of Pakistan and empower women to pursue their dreams by breaking past traditional stereotypes.

1. How does it feel to be crowned Miss Pakistan World 2010?

It was completely unexpected. I was still in shock when the MC announced my name, but it feels incredible and I am very excited to make this an unforgettable year as Miss Pakistan World 2010.

2. Tell us a bit about your background?

I was born in Austin, Texas and raised in Sugar Land. My parents spent the first part of their lives in Karachi, Pakistan, but moved to the U.S. about thirty years ago. I have two sisters, Natasha and Mona. I am currently studying Religion and Anthropology at Boston University and I will be graduating from university in May of 2011.

3. What is your aim with this title?

My goal as Miss Pakistan World 2010 is to foremost bring awareness to the world about the country of Pakistan, its qualities and imminent needs.  Pakistan is a very beautiful country with some of the world’s highest mountain peaks and a history that traces back to one of the world’s first civilizations.

4. Pakistan is such a country where anything and everything sparks controversy, why is that

Unfortunately, a major issue in Pakistan is the lack of education. The literacy rates are very low, especially among women; therefore religious leaders more often than not drive the opinions of people which is also how the Taliban gained power in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. The only way to cure this perpetual cycle of controversy is to strengthen the education system in Pakistan.

5. You have a whole year ahead of you, what are your personal plans for Miss Pakistan World?

I’m extremely excited to begin my year as Miss Pakistan World 2010 and I hope to use this as a platform to create networking tools between Pakistan women across the U.S. and hopefully the world. I would like to serve as an ambassador for Pakistan as well as serve as a role model for other Pakistan girls.
I hope to further the initiatives of the Rupani Foundation, which gives Pakistani women in the Northern Areas confidence and the ability to be active outside of their homes. Overall, I hope to create awareness about Pakistan and the issues affecting the country such as lack of education, sanitation, and air pollution.

Spring Summer 2011

Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011

Fashion Week wraps up today with its enchanting, heart hitting spring/summer collection in Milan Fashion Week 2011.

Seven consecutive fashion filled days that kicked off on Tuesday, September 22 in Milan Fashion Week wraps up today with its enchanting, heart hitting spring/summer collection.  Myriads of new trends are seen in this fashion week with Giorgio Armani took the lead with its cool, deep blue collection personifying the mesmerizing loneliness of dessert.

The collection was opulent in its textural richness and intricacies of cut. Dolce and Gabbana transformed lacy, flowy curtains and bed sheets into classy, fairytale like white frocks that looked just impeccable and perfect choice for summer romance. Dolled up in dreamy, tribal, embroidered tulle dresses, with laced seams and mile long, flat ironed extensions, Robert Cavalli models were looking very sexy and seductive. The hip-hugging bell bottoms or long, webby skirts worn with tied-on tattered tops that left hips, bellies and backs exposed were sensually heart hitting. Gucci definitely rocked the catwalk with its ‘Sophisticated Seduction” collection that was mesmerizingly colorful and sweetly sophisticated.

The Spring/Summer 2011 Gianfranco Ferre collection, designed by Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi draws inspiration from jazz and from modern rhythms of the body in motion, interpreting the concepts of luxury and elegance as sensual variations on the theme of an easy, effervescent and absolute femininity.

The shoulder bags that Gianfranco Ferre featured on the Milan Fashion Week runway were small with metallic embellishments in the form of beads and small metal parts formed together to create an artistic focal point. Ferre used golden satin, black satin, black leather and white leather with chain straps to create their shoulder bag collection. The shoulder bags had shorter straps than what other designers have been showing for spring and summer 2011. Gianfranco Ferre's shoulder bags hit at the bottom of the waist on the models as opposed to the hip length straps Fashionistas have been seeing during the New York, London and Milan shows. Gianfranco Ferre showed his shoulder bags on both daytime and evening looks; although the handbags themselves leaned towards formalwear.

Gianfranco Ferre also featured small, formal clutches on the Milan Fashion Week runway. The clutches were also embellished with beads and metal parts formed together to create intricate designs. Ferre's clutches were formal and appropriate for black tie occasions; although they could be paired with formal dinner wear or darker, special occasion looks.

Gianfranco Ferre has given Fashionistas formal handbags which are an alternative to the easy-to-recognize evening bags from major designers. Ferre's handbags, although unique, are classic and can be worn season after season. For Fashionistas looking for classic, fresh and artistic evening shoulder bags and clutches that stray from the obvious, Gianfranco Ferre's spring and summer 2011 handbag collection will be the ultimate line.

New Decorations for children's rooms

Furniture Tips for Children’s Room

Your child is born with special needs to cater to. The kid requires as much material support as it requires emotional attention. Obviously, the parents want only the best for their child. However, ‘the best’ comes at a price. In the good old days, people usually did not have too many resources to provide their kids with every comfort in the world. But with double-income parents and small families on the rise, the parents feel that the good times must be shared with their tiny-tots. Resultantly, the furniture requirements of the children’s room have undergone varied optional changes.

Gone are the days, when the kids were stuck on a single-bed till he attained adulthood. The furniture designing companies have come up with an innovative idea of 3-in-1 bedroom set ideally suited for all ages till the child becomes a man or a woman. These sets are so designed that when a crib is no longer needed, it can be converted into a toddler bed, which can then be converted into a single, full or queen-sized bed. This was just a simple illustration of the kind of innovation being undertaken in this rapidly growing segment of furniture market.

Antique furniture made of Amish handcrafted furniture should never be lost sight of when selecting the furniture for your kid. Amish made furniture, that is time tested, presents plethora of advantages over the modern fancy furniture. The strength and sturdiness of Amish furniture makes for an ideal choice for your kid’s unique requirements of playing, jumping and hopping over the furniture. Amish Oak furniture also ensures that your kid grows in the natural environment and appreciates the craftsmanship that goes into making every unique Amish furniture article. From the safety point of view, always avoid heavily painted furniture in your kids’ room.

Another aspect that goes into buying an ideal set of furniture article for your kids’ comfort is space management. The space is always available at a premium for working couples. It is quite possible that the kids’ room is extremely short on space. Convertible furniture always comes in handy when space is the priority. Toys and clothes can be accommodated in the attractive drawers and chesters. The idea is to look for vertical space in the room, as horizontal space is not easily available.

A very good choice for children specific furniture is to use designer-made cubicles. It will obviously save a lot of space and also help children learn to organize themselves a bit better. These cubicles and drawers come in all attractive colors with on-board games that always keep children interested. Always make sure that the furniture in your kids’ room resonates positive vibes with attractive color combinations. Bright colors are ideally suited for the children’s room furniture.

Lastly, the value of good market research in the choice of children’s furniture can never be underestimated. The best price deals can only be extracted if you know the market well. Your local furniture showrooms, bulk furniture suppliers, business yellow pages and Internet are few leads that should help you decide the best course for your furniture needs.
